Advancing Athletics at Washington University

Why We Give - Testimonials

From Our Alumni

“I invest in Washington University Athletics because our outstanding student-athletes are among the future leaders of our society. These young men and women represent the true meaning of the term student-athlete, demonstrating the highest degree of excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field.

As a member of the W Club at the Eliot Society level for the past 15 years, I have seen firsthand how our support has helped to strengthen the athletics program. Our gifts each year help to retain top coaches, recruit top student-athletes, enhance equipment and facilities, and provide the resources to help our student-athletes pursue their championship aspirations and enjoy the best possible learning experience at Washington University.

The excellence of Washington University Athletics is a team effort, and all of us can play a part. I invite you to help shape the future of the Washington University.”

“We believe it is extremely important to support our Division III athletics program. Our athletes are admitted according to the standards of the university admissions program and do not receive athletics scholarships as do their Division I counterparts. While the university does support our athletics program, budget limitations prevent the university from adequately providing the funds necessary for the extras that make our Division III program the role model for other Division III programs.

Funds for these extras include traveling costs, superior scoreboards, an all-weather football and soccer field, equipment and other items that provide the tools for our outstanding coaches and student-athletes to succeed at a high level. These extra funds are provided by membership in the athletics department’s W Club. The W Club is comprised of alumni, parents and friends who support the athletics department monetarily. I would hope our alumni and particularly those who attend Washington University sporting events would consider supporting our remarkable student-athletes, coaches and programs by joining the W Club."
