Reunion at Thurtene Carnival will be packed with events on campus and around St. Louis, but there are a few signature Reunion experiences you won’t want to miss, like the Welcome Back Party, the Alumni BBQ on the East End of Danforth Campus, and your Class of 2010 Party! We’re busy working on a full schedule, so check back in early 2025 to read about all of the receptions, tours, and events we have planned.

Welcome home, Class of 2010! Join the party at a.casa, an intimate and lovely gem nestled between St. Louis’ charming Northampton and Tower Grove South neighborhoods. Catch up over drinks, food, nostalgic tunes, and fun photo opportunities, and enjoy making wonderful new memories with old friends.

Welcome back party
Friday, april 4
6-9 p.m.

Day one of reunion weekend concludes with the signature Welcome Back Party, an epic celebration held in Tisch Park. As the sun sets behind beautiful Brookings Hall, catch up with old friends over heavy appetizers, desserts, and beer, wine, and soda. Enjoy live music, fun photo opportunities, and an amazing evening with the WashU community.

Join classmates and their families at the new Tisch Park for a fun-filled afternoon of great BBQ catered by the award-winning Pappy’s Smokehouse. Complimentary beer, wine, and soda will be provided. Enjoy children’s activities and entertainment throughout the event.

Class notes

Lauren Elizabeth Peters, AB ’10, wrote Fashion Before Plus-Size: Bodies, Bias, and the Birth of an Industry (Bloomsbury Academic, July 2023). It is the first book to trace the origins and history of plus-size fashion and the nature and evolution of weight bias in the fashion industry.

Anna Spelman, AB ’10, is a documentary filmmaker and video journalist working with outlets Al Jazeera, TIME, Univision and Bleacher Report.

Dennis Sweeney’s, AB ’10, debut collection of poetry, In the Antarctic Circle, won the Autumn House Rising Writer Prize and was published by Autumn House Press in March 2021.

Laura Mart, BFA ’10, was promoted to associate curator at Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. She co-curated the original exhibition “‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’: The Jewish Deli.”

Commencement 2010: A treasured past, a sparkling future
U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, PhD, will deliver the Commencement address. Chu, a Nobel laureate and a strong advocate for alternative energy sources, will receive an honorary doctor of science degree during the ceremony.

Two new residence halls open on South 40
Students arriving on campus this fall probably noticed a different look to the South 40. Two impressive new buildings, South 40 House and Umrath House, have opened to students for
the first time this year.

WashU’s volleyball team captured its 10th NCAA Division III national title Nov. 21 by defeating top-ranked Juniata College, 3-1
