The Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center

The Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center, including the Gary M. Sumers Fitness Center, opened its doors to the Washington University community on October 29, 2016. Adding more than 60,000 square feet to the Washington University Athletics Complex, this new facility has redefined how WashU students socialize, exercise, find balance and compete. Featuring new multipurpose studios, a three court recreational gymnasium, elevated running track and wellness suite, the Sumers Recreation Center has transformed fitness, recreation and wellness at Washington University.

The Sumers Recreation Center aims to:

  • Build community. From the recreational user to varsity athletes, the Sumers Recreation is a center of campus life, providing a welcoming space for individuals to gather and interact.
  • Promote health and wellness by supporting active, well-rounded lifestyles.
  • Inspire participation in organized athletics, intramural leagues, club sports and general fitness and recreation activities.
  • Strengthen student recruitment with accessible and welcoming facilities.
