FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VOLUNTEERING

I’ve submitted my volunteer interest form. When should I expect to hear from you?

Depending on your preferred volunteer program(s) or opportunity(ies), you should expect to hear back from a member of the Alumni Relations staff or other program representative within three business days. In the meantime, feel free to contact the Alumni Association with any questions, or if you are in need of additional information.

How much time do I have to commit?

Many of our programs and opportunities differ in required hours and length of service. You will be able to discuss your availability with the Alumni Relations staff member or other program representative. We have opportunities which range from welcoming guests for an hour at one event to joining a network steering committee which may involve several planning meetings throughout the year. We can often tailor an opportunity to fit your desired time commitment.

I’m not sure how I want to get involved; who should I contact in order to learn more about the available opportunities?

If you would like to learn more please call 314-935-7378 or email the Alumni Association.

I would like to host an Alumni Network event, but I’m not sure what that would entail. Could you provide me with more information?

We love having the opportunity to host events with members of the WashU Alumni Networks, and we try to use alumni-owned venues whenever possible. Our events occur around the globe and range in size and scale from small regional happy hours to larger events with guest speakers or lecturers.

If you have a space that you would like to make available for an event, please email your information and space details to alumniclubs@wustl.edu with the subject “Alumni Event Space.” If you have access to a popular speaker, “behind-the-scenes” tour, or any other special opportunity, please email the details to alumniclubs@wustl.edu with the subject "Alumni Event Opportunity."

Can I still volunteer if I don’t live in St. Louis?

While some of our opportunities are only available to those who live in St. Louis and other regions, we encourage alumni around the world to get involved! Once you fill out the volunteer interest form, we will contact you to discuss what opportunities are available in your region.

I am not an alumnus/a of Washington University, can I still be involved?

Parents of current and former students, House Staff (former WU Medical Center residents), and friends of the university, including faculty and staff members, are invited to all of our events and are welcome to participate as volunteers.
