Frequently asked questions
What is the Class of 2024 Scholarship Fund?

The Class of 2024 Scholarship Fund is used in the following fall for an incoming first-year student with demonstrated financial need during their tenure at WashU. Scholarship funds are applied directly towards tuition fees.

Why does WashU need me to make a gift?

While the WashU endowment has significantly increased our financial aid resources, a gap still exists between available resources and the demonstrated need of students. We encourage you to check out WashU’s Financial Aid website to read more about our continued need for philanthropic support with the introduction of need-blind admissions and a no-loan policy.

Will my $5 truly make a difference?

Yes! Last year gifts of $100 or less made up almost $1 million in Annual Fund support. Annual Fund gifts significantly help bridge the gap between tuition and the full cost of a high-quality education. Annual Fund gifts also enable university leadership to act on immediate or changing needs. The university’s Annual Fund starts with a zero balance at the start of each fiscal year (July 1) and is replenished throughout the year by donors.

Will I receive anything for making a gift?

A graduating senior who makes a gift of any amount to any area of the university receives a gold philanthropy cord to wear with your regalia during commencement. Your name will also be listed on the class giving website honor roll to show your dedication to the fund.

I want to support other programs, not a scholarship. Can I do that?

Absolutely, we know that every person has their own passions and may wish to support another area within WashU.

What is the Senior Class Gift committee?

The best way to raise awareness and excitement for the Senior Class Gift is through word of mouth to your fellow peers. The Senior Class Gift Committee is a peer-to-peer fundraising volunteer opportunity aimed at educating classmates on the importance of giving back to the university. Volunteers learn about philanthropic giving, develop outreach skills, and have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the life of an incoming first-year student.
