The Russell Schwartz and Susan Goland #GivingTuesday Challenge

You helped WashU secure $50,000 for students!

Russell Schwartz, AB '77, and his wife, Susan Goland, created a generous $50,000 #GivingTuesday challenge to encourage 1,000 donors to make a gift of any amount to Washington University on November 28. A total of 1,177 supporters accepted the challenge and made a gift on #GivingTuesday!

Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Goland thank you for joining the movement and supporting the students of Washington University. Your gift will provide resources for life-changing scholarships, distinguished faculty, exceptional academic programs, innovative research, and much more.​

About Russell Schwartz, AB '77

Russell Schwartz, AB ’77, is senior vice president and head of original programming business and legal affairs at Starz Entertainment in Los Angeles. Mr. Schwartz is active in numerous Washington University alumni- and student-focused activities nationally and in the greater Los Angeles area. He is an enthusiastic supporter of scholarships at Washington University and returns to campus multiple times each year to discuss his vast experience in the entertainment industry with current students.

Mr. Schwartz is a member of the Arts & Sciences National Council, vice chair of the Los Angeles Regional Cabinet and the campaign committee, and a member of the WashU Entertainment Network. In addition, he is a 35-year Washington University Loyalty Society member and a William Greenleaf Eliot Society Life Benefactor.

When asked what being a Washington University graduate means to him, Mr. Schwartz has said, “It means everything to me. My education is an important part of the foundation upon which I've built my life. It enabled me to explore and grow and acquire the skills I've needed in life and my career. I loved my four years at WashU and am incredibly proud to be an alumnus.”
