Student Stories

“Your participation in the Annual Fund allows students like me to pursue our passions, explore the world through our art and receive an excellent education.”

When Moya Shpuntoff was looking at colleges, she was drawn to Washington University by the breadth and depth of its programs. “I knew I wanted to study art, but I also wanted to pursue my other academic interests, such as psychology, dance, and women’s studies,” she says. The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts—one of the few excellent art schools that are also part of a top-ranked research university—seemed to have it all.

Washington University was Moya’s first choice, but the tuition was more than her family could afford. “I was so excited when I received a scholarship,” she recalls. “This support tells me that my hard work is worthwhile to someone other than me.”

The Sam Fox School’s faculty members are practicing artists and designers who work closely with undergraduates.  Moya says the school will give her a solid basis for whatever career she chooses because the professors encourage students to explore varied career possibilities. “They offer many opportunities for intellectual, personal and creative growth, and I’m very grateful for this time of learning and exploration.

“I am in awe of the generosity of alumni and friends,” Moya adds. “Your participation in the Annual Fund allows students like me to pursue our passions, explore the world through our art and receive an excellent education.”
