APAP - Alumni & Parent Admissions Program

The Alumni & Parents Admission Program (APAP) is made up of alumni with baccalaureate degrees and parents of current undergraduates who assist with the undergraduate admission process. APAP members help the university recruit and enroll talented students in the areas where they live. Parent members have the opportunity to serve as ambassadors for the university, host or attend receptions for admitted and enrolling students, represent the university at college fairs and be resources for parents of recently admitted students. Participating in APAP is a great way for parents to learn more about the university, network with other parents and alumni, and help encourage families of prospective students by sharing their knowledge of the university.

All parents are welcome to join this enthusiastic group, and can choose how much time they would like to commit to it during the year. To join APAP, please call (800) 935-4826 or sign up online.

Partner with the Career Center

The Washington University Career Center helps students establish lifelong career development strategies, connects students with a diverse Washington University community and provides extensive support to students through every stage of their career search. Parents are invited to partner with the Career Center by:

•  Promoting or establishing co-ops, internships and full-time positions for Washington University students with their organizations and others with which they are affiliated. Career Center staff work with Human Resources and hiring teams to make effective cases for hiring highly qualified students and to create customized recruiting plans.
•  Sharing industry knowledge and experience with students on campus through the Career Center’s Lunch with a Pro series or as part of an industry-specific panel event.

Parents who work with the Career Center help build and expand Washington University’s reputation in various markets, enhancing the overall value of a Washington University education. Parents who want to learn more or become involved with the Career Center should contact the External Relations team at (314) 935-5956 or visit careercenter.wustl.edu.

Attend/Host Events in Your Community

There are several ways to be involved with Washington University in your hometown. Attending events in your hometown is a wonderful way to connect with the university. You can network with other members of the WU community, enjoy special cultural opportunities in your area and find out from others how they help to advance the mission of Wash U. Parents are encouraged to attend Wash U events, so if you see something from the Alumni Association, know you are welcome!

Many parents also volunteer to host events in their home for alumni, parents and friends of the university. Events may feature a prominent administrator or faculty member and are often planned at the suggestion of a parent.

The Alumni Association invites Young Alumni to stay connected, engaged, and involved through various networking opportunities ranging from attending a regional event to attending your Reunion. Washington University’s Alumni Association membership is a complimentary benefit bestowed upon graduation and is at no cost to you. We encourage you to take advantage of the many alumni services the Alumni Association has to offer, including career networking, alumni gatherings, continuing education opportunities and more. They've been created for you!     Young Alumni are defined as under the age of 35 and having received an undergraduate and/or graduate degree. Read about some of the opportunities available to young alumni.

Home Plate Program

Founded and run by Risa Zwerling Wrighton, wife of Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, the Home Plate Program matches your student with a host family they can visit several times a year for home cooked meals and enjoyable dinnertime conversation.

Host families typically live in the neighborhoods surrounding the Washington University campus and have interesting and varied backgrounds. Every attempt is made to match students with families who share intellectual, cultural, and recreational interests. The families enjoy the program as much as the students do!
