How to Make a Gift to Washington University

Gifts to Washington University may be made online, by phone, or by mail. Donors can make gifts by check (payable to Washington University), credit card, or securities transfer.


You may make a pledge to be paid by June 30, 2016, or you may make a multiple-year pledge to be paid over two to five years.

Credit Card Gifts

American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa are all accepted by mail, online, or by telephone.

You may also choose to make a recurring credit card gift monthly, quarterly, or annually.  

Matching Gifts

A matching contribution from your employer can increase your level of membership. For example, a gift of $500 plus a 1:1 employer match qualifies you for Eliot Society membership. You may contact your personnel or human resources office or look for your company in Wash U's Matching Gifts database.

Gifts of Securities

Most gifts of appreciated securities that have been held long term are fully deductible at fair market value, and the donor does not incur a tax on unrealized capital gain. Your financial institution will need the following information to make the transfer:
